MUSIC FAVOURITES: SEPTEMBER

I thought it would be a good idea to start keeping my music favorites on record. Every month I'd like to share what I have been listening to in that period of time with the reason why I like the track/album/artist whatever and etc. Hopefully this turns out alright, please leave feedback to help me improve!

Artist: Tonight Alive
Album Title: The Other Side
Favourite Track: The Other Side
Rating: 6/10

I've seen Tonight Alive live about two times and their sound is pretty identical to their studio recordings which rule. I started getting into them late 2011 with their release of 'What Are You So Scared Of?' and got my tick of approval once I found out one of their tracks (Thank You & Goodnight) had Mark Hoppus doing guest vocals. I saw them when they toured Soundwave 2012 and then they did a tour a few months later and I saw them at Corner Hotel.

With this new album, The Other Side which was released pretty recently in 2013 is seems different to what they usually do. Don't Wish has some weird Amity Affliction like intro but my favourite song at current time is The Other Side because it's such typical pop lyrics.

Artist: The Amity Affliction
Album Title: Chasing Ghosts
Favourite Track: Open Letter
Rating: 9/10

Already breaking my own rules by mentioning something that I didn't listen to at all in the month of September but I just remembered how great this album is after reflecting about this time last year when I saw them live at Palace Theater.

A lot of intense Amity fans say this album is shit compare to their past releases but I was never really a crazy Amity Affliction fan only until this album came out. This album is pretty dark mostly talking about death and life and suicide (real shit) but during the time this was released and I was listening to this I knew someone who recently passed, although I hardly knew the person it was comforting while my family were grieving.

Seeing them live last year in early October was such a good show, I don't even mind paying $60 for them. I saw two other bands that I were really into during that time (Architects & The Ghost Inside). Every time I listen to this album is so nostalgic because it was quite emotional and their last song (Open Letter) they released confetti and it was the coolest touch. (check out the video above recorded at one of Melbourne's shows on that tour, 10/10 for live performance)

FASHION WANTS: OCTOBER

Just a few things I am very keen on buying for myself because I am doing some Spring Cleaning and I would like nice clothes.

Have Heart is a classic hardcore band who broke up years ago and I need a decent and warm hoodie to wear when I'm chilling out so this is really nice looking.

Cotton On Socks - $2AUD
Just cause, cute cheap socks. Cotton On socks are really comfy with good material. I already own a pair very similar to these except a different print.

These Shorts I found on Polyvore - $21AUD

I don't know the name of these shorts or the brand but I found them whilst I was snooping through my Polyvore feed and it looks like a dressier version of gym shorts which seems to have thin, breathable material which would be good for the hotter months.

I am in desperate need of new sneakers and not only are these ones cute and seem breathable because of the mesh material, but they're vegan due to this model having no leather material. I have discovered it's pretty hard to find pretty runners that don't have leather.

REVIEW: Dickinson's Witch Hazel

Dickinson's Witch Hazel - $5.99AUD (At Chemist Warehouse)

I was in need of a new toner (mostly for my body) and I have always known about Witch Hazel but I was hesitant to buy it, so the other day I finally bought a bottle from Chemist Warehouse.

Let me first mention that the smell of the product is unpleasant, but luckily, it doesn't say on the skin and disappears after a few minutes. It is quite natural only having two ingredients (100% Distilled Witch Hazel including 14% Alcohol) the Alcohol helps dry out breakouts and the Witch Hazel smooths pores and removes dirt, it is pretty gross looking at your cotton pad after wiping away all the crap hiding on your skin.

But considering my face is oily/combination, drying out my skin too much makes me flaky so I use this on my body instead.

PROS:
  • Very little ingredients
  • Inexpensive
  • Dries out pimples
  • Removes dirt out of pores
  • Fresh feeling post-use
CONS:
  • Smell is unpleasant (In My Opinion)
  • Gives me dry patches on my face (because I have very sensitive skin)

REVIEW: Australis Fresh & Flawless Pressed Powder

Australis Fresh & Flawless Pressed Powder - $11.40AUD (At Priceline)

After all the Australian Beauty Youtubers kept raving on about this Powder I decided to finally pick it up in ‘Deep Natural’, which is one of the three shades this product has available. It calms to be good for sensitive skin, oil and fragrance free and I completely agree.

Not only does it give a nice coverage with and without a foundation or BB Cream underneath, it does not irritate my skin and it has a silky touch. The product also comes with a sponge but I believe it’s best applied with a brush.

People compare it to MAC’s Studio Fix Powder from the packaging and the actual product and say it’s quite similar. MAC’s pricing for their powder is about $49AUD while the Australis F&F Pressed Powder is $11.40AUD and you can always catch sales at Priceline and purchase it even cheaper.
Also we cannot forget that MAC tests on animals, whilst Australis is cruelty-free and this product is Vegan Friendly.

PROS:

  •  Great Coverage
  • Doesn’t irritate
  •  Oil Free
  •  Fragrance Free
  •  Comes with a sponge
  •  Doesn’t Cake

CONS:
  • Only has 3 shade choices (Natural, Deep Natural, Dark Brown)

Summer is Coming

I am some what excited for Summer since I like slightly warm weather and minimal clothing, but Australian Summers consist of 35+ degree weather and humidity which I am not keen on. Summer fashion isn't my favourite either compare to Spring and Winter but I do enjoy these things I picked out on My Polyvore (shown above).
Ray-Ban Clubmaster half-frame acetate sunglasses - $205AUD
Dolce & Gabbana Floral and fruit-print bandeau bikini - $560AUD
Biggest long shot and I'd probably never buy such expensive bikinis but I like this style. I bought some sky-blue semi high-waisted bikini bottoms with skirting, with matching bikini top last summer from Cotton On Body which I enjoy and I enjoy the 50s style.

Gee Wa Wa - Daphne - $65AUD
Only shoes I own that show my open foot are old target gladiators from like five years ago and basic looking thongs (flip-flops) from SportsGirl. I love the ankle strap shoes and I am considering getting sandals similar to these (with or without the platform)
Essence Sun Club Shimmer Bronzing Powder 9.0 g - $5.35AUD
The things I've bought so far from the Essence brand are super cheap and great quality and I will probably pick up this Bronzer just for the price.
Lush Sea Spray - $14AUD
I believe you can get shit, ratty looking 'beach waves' when you go to the beach for twenty minutes and it's free. Or you can make your own sea spray by mixing hot water and some salt together to make - Sea Salt Spray ~. But I do support Lush especially for what they stand for and they do have extra organic stuff in this spray such as Grapefruit, and the packaging is probably most of the reason I'd ever buy this.

I am due for a new pair of sunglasses considering my favourite 'ray-ban inspired' pair broke at a picnic last summer and I am currently living off a pink fake, full frame pair my brother bought me when he went to Thailand.
